How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Players move through discrete stages, defeat enemies, avoid hazards, collect useful objects, and reach the end of each area. Boxes, crates, and other objects can be picked up and thrown as weapons or used to interact with the environment.
Chip and Dale share the same basic abilities. In two-player mode, both characters occupy the same screen and must cooperate around obstacles and enemies. Progress is stage-based, with boss encounters and story scenes separating major parts of the adventure.
Plan your run
Treat throwable objects as both weapons and temporary cover. Clear nearby enemies before carrying an object through a narrow passage.
In two-player mode, avoid throwing objects across your partner's position. Move one character at a time through hazards, and use the extra player to control enemies or hold space while the other advances.

Before you begin
Use boxes and crates carefully; they can defeat enemies from a safe distance.
Small, deliberate jumps are safer than rushing through hazard sections.
Two-player coordination is especially useful when enemies and obstacles share a narrow screen.
Editorial context
A charming late-era NES platformer with responsive controls, creative object-based combat, and a strong cooperative mode.
Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers 2 is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It follows the Rescue Rangers as they investigate another scheme involving Fat Cat and his criminal organization. The game supports one or two players, with Chip and Dale working through compact stages filled with enemies, hazards, switches, and movable objects. Its central design combines precise jumping with a pick-up-and-throw combat system. The sequel retains the accessible structure of the first game while adding new situations and cooperative opportunities. It was released late in the NES era and is generally remembered as a polished, enjoyable licensed platformer, particularly for its two-player mode and responsive controls.
