How it plays
Crash travels through a world map divided into themed islands and enters individual 3D platforming stages. The main objectives are to reach each exit, defeat enemies, break crates, collect Wumpa Fruit, and find Tawna tokens and bonus routes.
Players run, jump, spin, slide in limited situations, and use Aku Aku masks for protection. Stages include jungle, ruins, bridges, beaches, and industrial areas, with several bosses interrupting the normal course structure. Completing stages more thoroughly can lead to gems and bonus rewards, while lives and checkpoints govern progression.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of Crash’s jump before attempting fast movement. A spin attack is useful against many enemies, but it cannot safely replace jumping over pits or certain hazards.
Break crates methodically and watch for checkpoint crates. Hidden bonus rounds and gem paths often require preserving crates, finding colored gems, or revisiting stages after obtaining new access.

Crash Bandicoot is a 1996 3D platform game developed by Naughty Dog for the original PlayStation. It follows Crash, a mutated bandicoot escaping Doctor Neo Cortex and attempting to rescue Tawna while stopping Cortex’s plan for world domination. The game combines linear obstacle courses with collectable crates, hidden paths, enemy encounters, and boss battles. Its fixed camera and carefully staged courses made precise movement central to play. Critics generally praised its colorful presentation, character animation, and distinctive level design, while some found its camera and later stages demanding. It became a major PlayStation release and established one of the platform’s best-known mascots.
