How it plays
Players race from a third-person perspective across themed circuits, collecting item crates and using weapons or defensive power-ups against rivals. The main objective is to finish first, while battle modes use arenas and different item-based goals.
Adventure Mode links races, arenas, boss events, and cup challenges through an overworld. Winning events unlocks new areas and characters, while time trials and advanced relic challenges provide additional objectives. Drifting and chaining boosts are central to maintaining high speed.
Plan your run
Learn to drift early. Hold a shoulder button while turning, then release it after building boost flames; chaining three boosts is usually more valuable than taking a risky shortcut.
Save strong items for narrow sections or the final lap, and learn each track’s shortcuts in Time Trial. In Adventure Mode, revisit completed areas for tokens, relics, and other completion objectives rather than treating the first victory as the end.

Crash Team Racing is a kart-racing game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the original PlayStation. It brings Crash Bandicoot characters into a colorful competition against the alien racer Nitros Oxide, whose challenge threatens the planet. Races combine tight drifting, weapons, shortcuts, and speed-boost techniques rather than relying on driving alone. The game includes an adventure campaign, single races, time trials, cup tournaments, and multiplayer modes. Its responsive handling and demanding boost system earned strong contemporary reception, and it is often regarded as one of the PlayStation’s best alternatives to Nintendo’s kart racers. The adventure structure and unlockable content give it more long-term progression than a basic arcade racer.
