How it plays
The game uses a side-view, one-on-one fighting perspective. Players choose a monster-themed fighter and battle through a sequence of matches, defeating opponents before facing the final challenge.
Each fighter has four attack buttons, directional movement, jumps, crouches, throws, special moves, and combination attacks. The game uses a life bar and a recoverable-gauge system, allowing some lost health to return if the player avoids further damage. Arcade-style play and console modes provide the main progression.
Plan your run
Learn one reliable ground combo, one anti-air response, and one safe special move before attempting advanced techniques.
Manage the recoverable portion of the life bar carefully. Retreating briefly can preserve health, while reckless attacks allow opponents to convert openings into long combos.
Use the training or versus options to study spacing, throw range, and the timing of each character's air attacks.

Editorial context
Fast, stylish, and mechanically deep, with some of Capcom's most expressive 2D animation.
The PlayStation version is a strong home adaptation, though arcade purists may prefer the original balance and presentation.
Darkstalkers 3 is a 2D arcade fighting game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. It brings together supernatural combatants from the Darkstalkers universe, including vampires, werewolves, demons, and other mythical creatures. Matches emphasize rapid movement, air attacks, special moves, chain combos, and character-specific abilities rather than weapon management or exploration. The PlayStation release is based on Vampire Savior: The Lord of Vampire and adapts the arcade game with console features and additional character content. It received a positive reception for its animation, distinctive roster, speed, and deep mechanics, although some players noted differences from the arcade version and the limitations of the aging PlayStation hardware.
