How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Players move through nine missions, defeating waves of enemies, avoiding hazards, collecting weapons, and reaching a stage boss. Billy and Jimmy can punch, kick, throw opponents, and use distinctive attacks based on their facing direction.
One or two players can play through the campaign. Mission progress is linear, while the selectable difficulty affects enemy behavior and the number of lives available. Environmental traps and platforming sections become increasingly important as the story advances.
Plan your run
Use directional attacks deliberately: the attack animation and range change depending on whether the character faces toward or away from an enemy. This is especially useful when several opponents surround you.
Pick up weapons when available, but do not rely on them exclusively. Save space around your character, throw enemies into groups when possible, and learn the timing of stage hazards before rushing forward.
In two-player mode, avoid striking the other player and coordinate attacks on bosses. On difficult settings, prioritize survival over score and use the edges of the screen to limit the number of enemies that can approach at once.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge is a side-scrolling beat 'em up developed by Technōs Japan for the Nintendo Entertainment System and published in North America by Acclaim Entertainment. Billy and Jimmy Lee travel across a series of dangerous locations to avenge Marian and defeat the criminal organization responsible for her death. The game emphasizes close-range combat, weapon use, platforming hazards, and cooperative play for two players. Its nine missions combine street fights with varied stages, including elevators, forests, bridges, and enemy bases. The NES version was generally well received for its energetic combat, strong two-player mode, and memorable music, although its difficulty and occasional control limitations were often noted by reviewers.
