How it plays
The game uses a top-down vertical-scrolling perspective. Amul flies continuously upward while the player steers around terrain, avoids enemy fire, destroys airborne and ground targets, and collects power-ups.
The adventure is divided into sequential stages with distinct enemy patterns and environments. Defeated enemies can provide upgrades that improve the dragon's firepower or survivability. Each stage ends with a major enemy encounter, and losing all lives sends the player back according to the game's continue structure.
Plan your run
Stay near the lower portion of the screen so you have more time to react to incoming enemies. Clear ground targets when the route is safe, but prioritize threats that can trap or cross your flight path.
Collect upgrades carefully and learn each boss's attack pattern. Avoid unnecessary risks after powering up; preserving the dragon's strength is usually more valuable than chasing every item.

Before you begin
Use small, deliberate movements instead of holding a direction continuously.

Memorize boss entrances and attack cycles after each attempt.
Dragon Spirit: The New Legend is a vertically scrolling fantasy shoot 'em up developed and published by Namco for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It follows the dragon Amul as he fights to rescue Princess Iris and defeat the forces threatening the kingdom. The game adapts the arcade series to a more adventure-oriented NES structure, combining aerial shooting with power-ups, ground targets, and boss encounters. Its play style is demanding but more forgiving than the original arcade game because the dragon can grow stronger through upgrades. Contemporary players generally regarded it as a solid NES shooter, especially for its atmosphere, colorful sprites, and challenging stages, although its difficulty and occasional slowdown can be punishing.
