How it plays
Matches use a third-person broadcast camera. The objective is to score more goals than the opposing team while managing possession, positioning, passing lanes, tackles, crosses, and shots.
Players can compete in individual matches, tournaments, and season-based competitions. Team selection, formations, substitutions, and match conditions affect how a game develops. Progression comes through advancing through scheduled fixtures and tournament rounds rather than through a role-playing character system.
Plan your run
Use short passes to move defenders out of position, then switch play toward open space. Avoid sprinting constantly, since controlled movement makes first touches and defensive positioning more reliable.
On defense, contain the ball carrier before committing to a tackle. Use crosses when the opponent protects the center, and take lower-percentage long shots only when passing options are closed.
Before you begin
Keep possession with short passes and use the wings to create crossing opportunities.
Change formations when protecting a lead or chasing an equalizer.
Use substitutions to preserve stamina late in matches.
FIFA 2000: Major League Soccer is a football simulation developed by EA Canada and published by EA Sports for PlayStation. It combines licensed international football with a strong focus on Major League Soccer, reflecting the league's growing profile in the United States. Matches are presented from a broadcast-style third-person perspective, with passing, shooting, tackling, set pieces, and tactical play forming the core experience. The game includes exhibition matches, league and tournament competition, and career-oriented progression through a season. Its reception was generally favorable for its broad team selection, accessible controls, and presentation, although critics also noted that the PlayStation version retained some rough edges in animation and artificial intelligence. It remains a notable late-1990s entry in the FIFA series.
