How it plays
Final Fantasy uses a world map, towns, dungeons, and a party of four selected character classes. Battles are menu-driven and turn-based; victory grants experience, gil, and access to stronger equipment and spells. Party development depends heavily on the classes chosen at the beginning.
Final Fantasy II follows named heroes across a story-driven world map. Its weapon and spell proficiency system improves abilities through use rather than conventional level gains. Players recruit temporary allies, complete objectives for the rebellion, and unlock new destinations by learning and discussing key terms.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party in Final Fantasy, and keep healing magic, antidotes, and revival items available before entering long dungeons. Equipment upgrades usually matter more than saving every gil.
In Final Fantasy II, use different weapon types and spells regularly so their proficiency improves. Visit towns often, learn important keywords, and create multiple saves before major story events or difficult dungeons.

Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls is a role-playing compilation developed by TOSE and published by Square Enix for the Game Boy Advance. It combines updated versions of Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II, presenting two classic fantasy adventures with revised interfaces, balance changes, and extra content. The first game follows four chosen Warriors of Light seeking to restore the elemental crystals. The second follows refugees resisting the militaristic Empire. Both games use turn-based battles, exploration, towns, equipment management, and a large cast of recurring fantasy archetypes. The compilation was generally well received for making two historically important RPGs portable and more accessible, although their differing systems and old-fashioned design remain noticeable.
