How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Players guide Fred or Barney through linear stages filled with platforms, enemies, hazards, collectibles, and occasional vertical sections. The main objective is to reach the end of each area while surviving attacks and collecting useful items.
Fred and Barney have different movement and attack characteristics, so choosing the better character for a particular obstacle is important. Stages are played in sequence, with boss encounters and themed prehistoric locations providing progression. The game is primarily a single-player experience.
Plan your run
Learn the timing of each character's jump and attack before rushing through a stage. Use the character best suited to the current obstacle, and avoid unnecessary contact with enemies because recovery opportunities can be limited.
Explore platforms carefully for collectibles and useful items, but do not let optional detours cause avoidable damage. Against bosses, prioritize safe positioning and attack only after their movement pattern is clear.

The Flintstones 2: The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak! is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Taito for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It follows Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble as they investigate a strange dinosaur-related incident and travel through prehistoric environments based on the animated series. The game emphasizes direct platforming, enemy attacks, collectible items, and switching between two playable characters with different abilities. Its bright cartoon presentation and recognizable license make it a distinctive late NES release. Reception has generally been mixed: critics have noted its colorful graphics and character variety, while also pointing to uneven difficulty, limited length, and controls that can feel less polished than the best platformers on the system.
