How it plays
The game uses an isometric, turn-based battlefield view. Players move Wanzers across urban and industrial maps, choose attacks, manage ammunition and action points, and exploit terrain and range to defeat enemy units.
The campaign alternates between story scenes and missions. Units gain experience, pilots learn skills, and Wanzers can be rebuilt from separate body, arm, leg, backpack, weapon, and computer components. Different equipment supports direct-fire, melee, and missile-focused roles.
Plan your run
Build squads with complementary roles rather than identical equipment. Keep at least one reliable long-range or missile unit, protect damaged limbs, and use terrain to limit enemy approaches.
Spend upgrade resources carefully. Skills and weapon proficiency matter as much as raw statistics, so let pilots repeatedly use the weapon types you intend to keep. Repair and resupply before committing to another engagement.

Front Mission 2 is a Japanese tactical role-playing game developed by G-Craft and published by Square for the PlayStation. Set in a politically fractured future, it follows soldiers caught in a coup and the widening conflict that surrounds it. Battles combine turn-based movement, weapon management, pilot skills, and detailed Wanzer customization. The game is known for its serious military tone, interlocking character viewpoints, and dense systems. Its slower pace and complex interface divided players, but it remains an important early PlayStation strategy RPG and a distinctive entry in the Front Mission series.
