How it plays

How does Gauntlet II play?

Viewed from above, each hero explores connected maze stages, defeats waves of enemies, collects treasure, finds keys, and reaches the exit. Food restores health, while potions and other objects can change the flow of a room.

Players attack from a distance or at close range depending on the hero. Progression is based on clearing increasingly difficult floors, managing health and magic, and cooperating to survive enemy ambushes and locked routes. The NES version supports solo play and multiplayer with compatible accessories.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Gauntlet II?

Keep moving rather than letting enemies surround the party. Use walls, corners, and narrow corridors to reduce the number of monsters that can attack at once.

Collect food and treasure deliberately, and avoid wasting health while searching for keys. Let the Wizard handle dangerous groups when possible, while the Warrior and Valkyrie hold enemies away from weaker characters.
