How it plays
The game uses a side-view platforming perspective. The player moves through linear stages, jumps across platforms, avoids hazards, and uses the proton pack against ghosts and other threats. Contact with enemies and environmental dangers reduces the character's health.
Stages are built around the film's supernatural locations and culminate in dangerous encounters. Progress depends on learning enemy patterns, choosing safe jumping routes, and conserving opportunities to attack rather than rushing forward.
Plan your run
Move cautiously and watch enemy movement before committing to a jump. Many hazards are easier to handle when approached from a stable platform rather than while moving forward.
Use the proton pack deliberately, keep space from enemies when possible, and learn the timing of each stage. Repeated attempts are often necessary because a missed jump or collision can cost substantial health.

Ghostbusters II is a side-scrolling action platformer based on the 1989 film. The NES version was developed by Imagineering and published by Activision. It follows the Ghostbusters as they investigate the supernatural activity surrounding a powerful river of pink psychomagnotheric slime beneath New York City. Players guide a Ghostbuster through hazardous stages, using a proton pack to deal with ghosts and other enemies while navigating platforms and environmental obstacles. The game received mixed historical reception: its license and recognizable equipment were appealing, but critics commonly noted uneven controls, repetitive action, and challenging level design.
