How it plays
The game begins on a map of planets and moons. The player chooses a route and moves Godzilla or Mothra toward occupied locations. Reaching an enemy location starts a side-view battle, while some map spaces provide items or other changes to the campaign.
Godzilla relies on close-range attacks and jumping, while Mothra offers different movement and attack behavior. Battles require defeating the opposing monster before continuing through the map. Later encounters become more demanding, and the final stages culminate in battles against powerful kaiju.
Plan your run
Use the map to plan a manageable route instead of moving toward every nearby planet. Choose the monster whose movement and attack style best fits the upcoming encounter.
In combat, stay mobile and learn enemy attack timing. Godzilla's close attacks are strongest at short range, while his heat ray can punish enemies from a safer distance. Mothra's aerial movement can help avoid ground-based threats, but careless positioning still leaves her vulnerable.
Save health for later encounters whenever possible. Bosses have large attack ranges and can overwhelm a player who repeatedly trades hits instead of attacking, retreating, and re-entering at a better moment.

Godzilla: Monster of Monsters! is a kaiju action-strategy game developed by Compile and published by Toho for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The player controls Godzilla and Mothra as they defend Earth from an invasion of giant monsters across a stylized planetary map. Each stage combines map positioning with side-view combat, giving the game a distinctive mixture of board-game planning and arcade-style action. The game is built around recognizable Toho monsters, including King Ghidorah, Gigan, Hedorah, and Mechagodzilla. Its unusual structure and faithful monster roster earned it attention among Godzilla fans, although contemporary reception was mixed because of uneven difficulty, awkward movement, and limited depth compared with more conventional action games.
