How it plays

How does Gradius: The Interstellar Assault play?

The player controls the Vic Viper in a side-view mission across several horizontally scrolling stages. The objective is to survive enemy formations, environmental obstacles, and boss encounters while destroying the defenses at the end of each area.

Destroying red power capsules moves the selection cursor along the power meter. The player can activate the highlighted upgrade, balancing speed, missiles, lasers, options, and shields. Losing a life removes much of the accumulated equipment, making recovery and careful positioning important.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Gradius: The Interstellar Assault?

Build the power meter cautiously instead of activating every upgrade immediately. Speed Up is useful early, but too much speed can make narrow passages harder to control.

Use the terrain as a warning for upcoming hazards, preserve defensive equipment for difficult sections, and learn boss attack patterns. After losing a life, prioritize recovering basic firepower and speed before attempting to rebuild the full setup.
