Justin
A spirited young adventurer and the game's protagonist. His curiosity and determination drive the expedition toward the ancient Angelou civilization.
How it plays
The player views towns, fields, and dungeons from a third-person perspective, guiding Justin and his party through a linear adventure with optional exploration. Objectives are delivered through conversations, story events, and visits to new regions.
Battles take place on a side-view field where combatants advance along an initiative bar. Players select attacks, magic, items, and defensive actions, then can interrupt enemy commands with well-timed attacks. Characters gain experience, weapon skills, and magic abilities, allowing the party to develop throughout the journey.
Plan your run
Build several weapon and magic skills rather than relying on a single attack type. Skill levels unlock useful abilities and improve statistics, so regular use of different weapons can make the party more flexible.
Watch the initiative bar before committing to powerful actions. Cancel enemy techniques when possible, use area attacks against groups, and keep healing items available for emergencies. Explore towns and dungeons carefully for equipment, items, and optional skill points.

Grandia is a Japanese role-playing game developed by Game Arts and released for the original PlayStation in 1999. It follows Justin, an optimistic young adventurer who leaves his hometown after discovering clues about a vanished ancient civilization. The game combines town exploration, dungeon traversal, story-driven conversations, and a distinctive initiative-based battle system. Its colorful presentation and emphasis on adventure give it a lighter tone than many contemporary RPGs, while its character relationships provide dramatic weight. Grandia was well received for its combat design, world-building, and energetic presentation, and it became one of the most respected console RPGs of its era.
