Herc
A powerful, direct fighter based on the mythological hero Heracles. He favors heavy attacks and straightforward physical combat.
How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective. The main objective is to travel through mythological regions, complete quests, defeat enemies, recover important items, and rescue the kidnapped goddess Persephone.
Players explore towns, wilderness, temples, caves, and other areas while using melee weapons, thrown objects, magical items, and consumables. Progression is driven by story events, equipment discoveries, puzzles, and access to new locations. A second player can join cooperative play as another hero.
Plan your run
Explore each area thoroughly before leaving. Break or inspect suspicious objects, speak with townspeople, and collect consumables because useful items are often needed for later encounters.
Use the hero whose strengths fit the situation: keep Atlanta at range, use Herc when enemies can be overwhelmed directly, and use Jason for a more flexible approach. Save powerful items for bosses and crowded rooms rather than spending them on ordinary enemies.
Meet the cast
A powerful, direct fighter based on the mythological hero Heracles. He favors heavy attacks and straightforward physical combat.
A fast archer who relies on ranged attacks and agility. Her abilities make her effective at keeping distance from enemies.
A versatile adventurer associated with the Argonauts. He provides a balanced alternative to Herc and Atlanta.
The goddess whose kidnapping establishes the central rescue objective of the adventure.
Before you begin
Search side paths and containers for healing items and equipment.
Keep several types of offensive items available because different situations favor melee, ranged, or magical attacks.
In cooperative play, separate the heroes carefully so both players can maneuver without blocking one another.
Herc's Adventures is a top-down action-adventure game developed by Big Ape Productions and published by LucasArts for the PlayStation in 1997. It reimagines Greek mythology as a deliberately irreverent journey through a cartoon version of ancient Greece. Players choose among three heroes and travel across connected areas while fighting monsters, solving environmental puzzles, collecting equipment, and advancing the story. The game supports single-player and cooperative play, with each hero offering a different style and selection of abilities. Its humor, colorful presentation, exploration, and two-player design earned it a generally positive reputation, although its combat and camera can feel less precise than those of more traditional action games.
