How it plays
The game presents the familiar nine-square board from a front-facing game-show perspective. Contestants select a square, hear a question and celebrity response, then decide whether the response is right or wrong.
Correct judgments place the contestant's marker on the selected square. The objective is to complete a line of three, while also preventing the opponent from doing so. Its primary appeal is local, turn-based play rather than action, with progress determined by answers and board position.
Plan your run
Treat every square as a tactical choice, not merely a trivia opportunity. When two opponent markers are aligned, blocking that line is usually more important than taking an unrelated square.
Pay attention to the wording of the question and the plausibility of the celebrity's response. If uncertain, compare the available winning and blocking moves before committing, because a single judgment can decide the board.

Use the board position as well as trivia knowledge when choosing a square.
Hollywood Squares is a licensed NES adaptation of the long-running American television quiz show, developed by The Code Monkeys and published by GameTek in 1989. It is a quiz and party game built around a giant tic-tac-toe board populated by celebrity squares. Players answer questions by judging whether a selected celebrity has given a correct response. The central premise is simple, but success depends on general knowledge, reading the situation, and choosing strategically among available squares. Its reception was generally modest: the license was recognizable, while the presentation and question-driven play were limited by the NES hardware.
