How it plays
The game is viewed from a side-on perspective. Master Higgins moves through horizontally scrolling stages, collecting fruit to maintain his health, avoiding enemies and hazards, and reaching the goal before the timer expires.
Stages are grouped into island areas with branching paths and boss encounters. Players can find axes, boomerangs, skateboards, and dinosaur companions, then use those resources to handle different terrain and enemy patterns. Losing all health or allowing the food gauge to run out costs a life.
Plan your run
Keep moving, but do not outrun the next food item. The food gauge steadily decreases, so fruit is as important as enemy avoidance.
Use dinosaur companions when their abilities suit the stage, and protect them from unnecessary damage. Learn branching routes and boss patterns rather than spending lives on repeated blind attempts.

Hudson's Adventure Island III is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It stars Master Higgins, who travels across dangerous islands to rescue Tina after she is abducted by aliens. The game combines fast running and jumping with weapon use, food management, environmental hazards, and dinosaur companions. Its structure is more exploratory than the earliest entries, offering branching routes and several worlds to clear. Contemporary reception generally recognized its responsive controls, colorful presentation, and substantial challenge, while also noting that its strict stamina and time systems preserve the demanding character of the series.
