How it plays

How does Ice Hockey play?

Matches are viewed from an overhead perspective on a single rink. The objective is to score more goals than the opposing team before time expires. Players switch among skaters, move freely around the rink, pass the puck, shoot, and use body checks to disrupt opponents.

Teams are represented by national flags and can be customized through lineup choices. Skaters differ by size: smaller players are faster, while larger players are stronger but slower. Matches can be played against the computer or another player, with multiplayer support for up to four participants using the appropriate accessory.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Ice Hockey?

Use smaller skaters to chase loose pucks and create breakaways, but keep larger players near the goal for defensive pressure and rebounds.

Pass before shooting when defenders close in. Approach the puck carrier from an angle, protect the center of the rink, and avoid sending every player toward the same side.

Against the computer, quick changes of direction and short passes are generally safer than prolonged attempts to carry the puck through several defenders.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Choose a balanced lineup until you understand how speed and strength affect play.

  2. 2

Keep one player between the puck and your goal when attacking.

  3. 3

Use multiplayer matches to exploit passing lanes and coordinated checks.
