How it plays

How does Karate Champ play?

The game presents each bout from a side-on perspective. The player faces a computer-controlled opponent and attempts to score by striking with correctly timed punches and kicks while moving around the arena.

Progression is based on winning successive matches and completing bonus activities. Different attacks have different reach and timing, so positioning, defense through movement, and patience are more important than rapid button presses.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Karate Champ?

Stay at a controlled distance and watch the opponent's movement before attacking. Short, well-timed attacks are safer than repeatedly pressing buttons.

Use directional movement to line up an attack, then return to a neutral position so the opponent cannot easily punish a missed strike. Learn the timing of each match through practice rather than relying on one repeated move.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Favor timing and spacing over button mashing.

  2. 2

Approach bonus events as timing exercises and observe their patterns.
