Mickey Mouse
The playable hero who travels through the cursed kingdom and searches for a way to restore it.
How it plays
Mickey explores a connected-feeling set of platform stages from a side-view perspective. The main objectives are to reach the end of each area, survive hazards, defeat or avoid enemies, and collect objects that open the way forward.
Progress depends on gaining new abilities and using them in later areas. Mickey can jump, pick up and throw certain objects, and interact with environmental elements. Checkpoints and limited health make careful movement important, while optional paths reward thorough exploration.
Plan your run
Explore each area before leaving it, because new abilities can make earlier-looking routes meaningful later.
Use throwable objects against enemies when available, and avoid rushing into unfamiliar screens. Preserve health for sections with narrow platforms or repeated hazards, and learn enemy movement patterns before committing to a jump.
Meet the cast
The playable hero who travels through the cursed kingdom and searches for a way to restore it.
A supporting character associated with Mickey’s quest in the game’s story.
Before you begin
Search above and below the obvious route; several stages hide useful items and alternate passages.
Treat new abilities as keys for both current and previously visited areas.
Do not jump blindly around screen edges, where hazards may be difficult to see.
Land of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse is a side-scrolling platform adventure developed by Aspect and published by Sega for the Sega Master System. Mickey enters a cursed fantasy kingdom and must recover the magical items needed to restore it. The game combines traditional platforming with light exploration, object manipulation, and ability-based backtracking. Stages contain enemies, hazards, hidden routes, and puzzle-like obstacles rather than relying only on fast action. Its colorful presentation and larger, more exploratory levels made it one of the Master System’s most acclaimed late-period platform games. Although it shares ideas and characters with Sega’s other Illusion titles, it uses its own world, level structure, and progression system.
