How it plays
The game uses a 2D side-scrolling perspective. The objective is to move through enemy-held areas, defeat soldiers and machines, rescue POWs, collect weapons, and destroy a boss at the end of each stage.
The player can run, jump, crouch, fire in multiple directions, throw grenades, and enter certain vehicles. Progression depends on clearing stages and finding POWs, while weapons and health-related resources are limited. A separate combat-focused mode is also available after meeting its requirements.
Plan your run
Conserve heavy weapons and grenades for armored enemies, clustered formations, and bosses rather than spending them on ordinary soldiers.
Search platforms, alcoves, and destructible objects for POWs and supplies. Learn enemy spawn points, crouch under projectiles, and keep moving when facing helicopters or large machines.

Metal Slug Advance is a side-scrolling run-and-gun action game developed and published by SNK Playmore for the Game Boy Advance. It adapts the series’ arcade formula to a handheld format, placing a rookie soldier in a conflict against the rebel forces led by General Morden. The game combines rapid shooting, platforming, enemy ambushes, destructible scenery, and occasional vehicle sequences. Its compact campaign is organized into stages with boss encounters and collectible POWs. The game was generally well received for preserving the series’ animation, humor, and explosive combat on modest hardware, although its high difficulty and limited length were frequently noted. The TRSI designation identifies a release label or dump tag, not a separate game.
