Liu Kang
Shaolin monk and tournament champion who uses fire-based attacks.
How it plays
Matches use a side-view arena with two fighters, each represented by a health bar. The objective is to win two rounds by depleting the opponent's health before time expires.
Players combine punches, kicks, crouching and jumping attacks with character-specific special moves. A single-player tournament progresses through the roster, while two-player competition supports direct matches. Victories lead toward battles with the hidden-style bosses Goro and Shang Tsung.
Plan your run
Learn the range and recovery of one reliable normal attack before adding special moves. Blocking is especially important against aggressive opponents; look for a punish after a missed jump-in or unsafe special move.
Save the strongest attacks for confirmed openings, and use jumping attacks sparingly. Against Goro, keep moving, avoid standing directly in front of him, and attack after his long recovery animations.

Mortal Kombat is a one-on-one fighting game developed for DOS by Probe Software and published by Acclaim Entertainment in 1993. It adapts Midway's arcade original, combining traditional martial-arts combat with digitized actors, distinctive special moves, and finishing techniques. Players select a warrior and fight through a tournament against a roster of human, supernatural, and monster opponents, eventually facing Goro and Shang Tsung. The DOS version preserves the recognizable character lineup and core rules, although its audiovisual presentation and responsiveness depend heavily on the computer configuration. The game was historically notable for its graphic violence, memorable characters, and influence on fighting-game design. It received substantial attention and helped establish Mortal Kombat as a major arcade franchise.
