How it plays

How does Mortal Kombat Trilogy play?

Matches take place from a side-on perspective in single-player, two-player, and tournament-oriented modes. The main objective is to defeat an opponent in a best-of-three-round fight, using normal attacks, throws, crouching and jumping attacks, special moves, and defensive positioning.

Winning matches advances the player through a ladder of opponents. Character-specific finishing moves can be performed after the final round when the game grants the appropriate opportunity. The roster includes returning fighters, hidden characters, bosses, and palette-swapped variations, depending on the selected mode and version.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Mortal Kombat Trilogy?

Learn the range and recovery of the selected fighter’s basic attacks before relying on special moves. Use crouching attacks and jump-ins carefully, since predictable approaches are easy for the computer or an experienced opponent to punish.

Save powerful special moves for confirmed openings, and avoid repeatedly using the same projectile or teleport pattern. Against bosses, patient defense is generally more reliable than trading attacks. Practice each character’s Fatality inputs separately, because the required distance and timing vary.
