The game uses a top-down, grid-based battlefield. The player commands tanks, artillery, infantry, aircraft, and other mechanized units, moving them across terrain before resolving attacks against enemy forces.

Scenarios are won by completing their stated military objective, commonly eliminating opposing units or securing key positions. Terrain and unit relationships affect the value of an attack, so advancing in formation and supporting vulnerable units are central to progression. Battles are structured as separate missions rather than as a continuous real-time campaign.

Study the map before moving. Protect damaged units, keep support units behind the front line, and avoid exposing a single formation to several enemy attacks in the same turn.

Use terrain and coordinated attacks to improve engagements. Concentrate force on one part of the enemy line instead of scattering attacks, and preserve mobile units for capturing or contesting important positions.
