How it plays

How does North & South play?

The campaign uses a map of the United States divided into territories. The player moves an army, captures strategic areas, and attempts to defeat the opposing side while managing the changing front line.

Encounters can lead to several action scenes, including side-view troop battles, fort assaults, and attempts to intercept or protect a train. Progress comes from taking territory and winning these encounters; the exact challenge depends on the selected side and scenario.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play North & South?

Protect your remaining army rather than attacking every nearby territory. A failed assault can leave the front line exposed, so choose battles that improve your position or cut off enemy movement.

Action scenes reward patience. Watch enemy movement, avoid unnecessary charges, and use the terrain or defensive position when available. Practice the timing of fort and train sequences before attempting a risky campaign push.
