How it plays
The game uses a top-down maze perspective. Each stage requires PAC-MAN to clear all regular pellets while avoiding Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. Four power pellets temporarily make the ghosts vulnerable, allowing PAC-MAN to eat them for increasing scores.
Players steer continuously through corridors, collect fruit for bonus points, and advance through successive mazes. The main challenge is managing routes, ghost behavior, and the brief duration of power-pellet effects. The focus is on completing stages and achieving a high score rather than on story or character development.
Plan your run
Plan a route before taking a power pellet so that you can reach several ghosts while they are vulnerable. Avoid entering corners with no escape route when a ghost is nearby.
Use tunnels to create distance, and keep track of which pellets remain in each section of the maze. When pursuing a high score, prioritize fruit and ghost chains only when the route remains safe.
Meet the cast
The yellow maze runner who eats pellets, fruit, and vulnerable ghosts.
The red ghost who pursues PAC-MAN.
The pink ghost who attempts to intercept PAC-MAN.
The cyan ghost whose movement combines pursuit with less predictable positioning.
The orange ghost whose behavior alternates between chasing and wandering.
Before you begin
Clear nearby pellets before crossing into a dangerous section of the maze.
Save a power pellet for situations where a ghost blocks your route.
Use the side tunnels to break pursuit and reposition.
PAC-MAN for Neo Geo Pocket is a handheld arcade adaptation developed and published by Namco. It presents the familiar maze-chase premise: guide PAC-MAN through a maze, eat every pellet, collect bonus fruit, and avoid four pursuing ghosts. The play style is direct and score-focused, with short stages suited to portable sessions. The game preserves the recognizable rules and characters of the original arcade classic while adapting them to Neo Geo Pocket hardware. Its historical appeal comes from offering an official PAC-MAN experience on a compact monochrome handheld, rather than from adding a large amount of new content. Reception is generally associated with faithful, accessible arcade play.
