How it plays
The game uses a third-person exploration view for towns and dungeons, with first-person battle presentation. The main objective is to investigate supernatural incidents, recruit or negotiate with demons, and defeat story bosses.
Players select commands for a party of characters, equip Personas, cast skills, exploit weaknesses, and combine attacks through Fusion Spells. Rumors can be spread to alter shops, events, and other parts of the game world. Progression comes from gaining experience, acquiring new Personas, improving equipment, and making story choices.
Plan your run
Use demon negotiations regularly instead of treating every encounter as a simple battle. Negotiation can provide cards and resources needed to obtain useful Personas.
Pay attention to rumors before spreading them. Some rumors unlock valuable shops or services, while others affect events and may not be reversible. Build Personas with complementary elemental skills, and test Fusion Spells because coordinated attacks can be more efficient than repeated individual skills.
Keep several save files before major story decisions. Equip status protection when entering unfamiliar areas, and use contact or support abilities to conserve SP during long dungeon sections.

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is a supernatural, turn-based role-playing game developed by Atlus for the PlayStation. It follows journalist Maya Amano and a group of allies as rumors become reality and a dangerous plot threatens Sumaru City. Exploration takes place across urban locations and dungeon-like areas, while battles use party commands, demon negotiations, and Persona fusion. The game is the second half of the Persona 2 story and follows Persona 2: Innocent Sin. It was praised for its mature themes, unusual rumor system, strong character writing, and ambitious scenario, although its slow pace and dated interface can make it demanding for newcomers.
