Protagonist
The unnamed student and primary viewpoint character. He can equip Personas and serves as the central leader of the party.
How it plays
Players explore towns and dungeons from a first-person perspective, moving through grids, doors, traps, and encounters. Battles are turn-based, with commands for physical attacks, guns, spells, items, defense, and Persona changes.
Personas determine each character's available magic and strengths. Players can negotiate with demons to gain spell cards, then use the Velvet Room to fuse cards into new Personas. Formation, weapon range, elemental affinities, and the Moon phase affect encounters. The main route progresses through story dungeons, while the Snow Queen Quest provides a separate, more difficult campaign with its own progression and party structure.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party instead of relying only on physical attacks. Keep Personas with healing, elemental coverage, and status resistance, and pay attention to enemy weaknesses before committing to a long dungeon run.
Meet the cast
The unnamed student and primary viewpoint character. He can equip Personas and serves as the central leader of the party.
A student whose illness and inner world are central to the game's supernatural conflict.
A student known by the nickname Brown who joins the protagonist's group.
A wealthy, serious student and recurring ally with a strong interest in investigation.
A stylish student nicknamed Elly who uses Personas and can join the party.
A classmate nicknamed Ayase whose route and characterization reflect the game's school setting.
A delinquent student who can become an optional party member.
Before you begin
Use the first-person map and mark confusing routes mentally; several dungeons contain dead ends and one-way passages.
The Snow Queen Quest is an alternate campaign rather than a short bonus stage and is notably more demanding.
Experiment with demon negotiation because buying every useful spell card is not practical.
Revelations: Persona is a first-person dungeon-crawling role-playing game developed and published by Atlus for the original PlayStation. Set in and around St. Hermelin High School, it follows a group of students who gain the ability to summon Personas after a supernatural incident. Exploration uses maze-like first-person dungeon views, while battles are turn-based and emphasize recruiting and combining demons. The game offers a principal storyline plus a substantial alternate route centered on Sennen no Yukki-no-Jo. Its unusual school setting, occult atmosphere, negotiation system, and demanding dungeon design established several foundations of the later Persona series. The North American localization received attention for bringing the previously Japan-only Megami Tensei style to a wider audience, though its altered names and presentation were later criticized by fans.
