How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective. Harry travels through jungle and ruin environments, crosses gaps, climbs around obstacles, defeats enemies with his whip, and collects useful items and treasure.
Progression is divided into platforming areas connected by an adventure-style journey. Exploration and timing are central, while hazards, environmental puzzles, and collectible objectives provide additional challenges. The Game Boy Advance version focuses on a straightforward single-player campaign.
Plan your run
Study enemy and trap timing before committing to a jump. Keep moving through hazardous sections, but pause at ledges to identify the next safe platform.
Explore side paths when possible because collectibles and useful items can make later sections easier. Use the whip from a safe distance rather than approaching every enemy directly.
Meet the cast
The playable explorer who searches the jungle, fights hazards with his whip, and attempts to complete the expedition.
Before you begin
Use short, controlled jumps near pits and moving hazards.
Check alternate routes for collectibles before leaving an area.
Treat the whip as both an attack and a way to manage enemy spacing.
Pitfall: The Lost Expedition is a 2D action-platformer developed by Torus Games for the Game Boy Advance and published by Activision. It follows Pitfall Harry as he searches a remote jungle for lost companions and ancient treasure while avoiding traps, hostile animals, and other hazards. The game combines side-scrolling exploration with jumping, whip attacks, item collection, and light puzzle solving. Its structure adapts the larger console adventure into a more compact handheld journey. Reception was generally mixed, with reviewers recognizing the recognizable Pitfall setting and varied obstacles while noting the limited depth and technical compromises of the portable version.
