How it plays
The main game uses a side-view platforming perspective. Bomberman moves through stages, avoids or defeats enemies, destroys blocks with bombs, and reaches the exit or completes the area’s objective.
Bomb explosions follow a cross-shaped pattern along open ground. Power-ups can improve bomb count, blast range, movement, or other abilities. Stages are grouped into themed areas and end with boss encounters, creating a straightforward progression through the adventure.
Plan your run
Place bombs with an escape route already in mind; narrow platforms and blast paths can make careless attacks dangerous.
Prioritize power-ups that improve blast range and bomb capacity, but avoid destroying blocks until you have checked for a safe route. Learn boss attack patterns instead of relying on close-range bombing.

Pocket Bomberman is a Game Boy action-platform game developed and published by Hudson Soft. It adapts Bomberman’s bomb-placement mechanics to a side-scrolling adventure, while retaining destructible obstacles, enemies, and timed explosions. Bomberman travels through several themed areas, clearing stages and confronting bosses rather than competing only in the series’ traditional arena battles. The game is designed for short, self-contained stages, with power-ups gradually expanding Bomberman’s range and bomb capacity. Its colorful presentation and approachable controls made it a notable single-player Bomberman entry on Nintendo’s handheld. Reception was generally positive for its accessible structure and faithful use of the series’ core ideas, although its limited Game Boy hardware and relatively simple presentation were also noted.
