How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective and turn-based battles. The player explores towns, routes, caves, and other areas, catches Pokémon, trains a party, collects items, and battles Gym Leaders, rival trainers, and other opponents.
Most Gym challenges can be attempted in different orders, with enemy levels adapting to the player's progress. The player can travel between Johto and Kanto, choose from multiple starting locations, and continue exploring after completing the main objectives. Battles use the traditional four-move system, type matchups, status effects, evolution, and party management.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with different types and maintain several Pokémon near the expected level of the next major battle. Because progression is flexible, exploit type advantages rather than relying only on level increases.
Explore thoroughly for Hidden Items, useful TMs, and optional encounters. Keep healing items available, teach field moves carefully, and use the Pokédex and move descriptions to plan around Gym specialties.

Pokémon Crystal Clear is a fan-made role-playing and monster-collecting game developed by ShockSlayer and built from Pokémon Crystal. It preserves the Johto and Kanto setting while redesigning progression around an open-world structure. Players can choose where to begin, select a starting region, and challenge most Gyms in a flexible order rather than following the original route sequence. The game emphasizes exploration, team building, and replayability. Quality-of-life changes remove several restrictions from the original Game Boy Color adventure, while additional customization and post-game content expand the experience. It became well regarded in the Pokémon ROM-hacking community for its non-linear design, polished presentation, and unusually broad range of player options.
