How it plays

How does Pokémon Puzzle Challenge play?

The playfield is viewed from the side, with panels arranged in a vertical stack. The player moves a cursor along a row and swaps neighboring panels horizontally; matching three or more panels clears them.

Clearing panels causes pieces above to fall. Consecutive matches create chains, while rapid matches create combos and can send garbage blocks to an opponent in versus play. Challenge mode progresses through trainer battles, while Puzzle, Time Zone, Marathon, and Garbage modes provide different objectives.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Pokémon Puzzle Challenge?

Look for chain opportunities before making the obvious match. Clearing a lower panel can let several pieces fall into place and produce larger attacks.

In versus play, build matches near the bottom while watching the opponent's stack. Save space by clearing dangerous garbage quickly, and use Puzzle mode to practice recognizing multi-step solutions.
