How it plays
The game uses a top-down perspective for exploration and a menu-driven first-person perspective during Pokémon battles. The main objective is to defeat eight Gym Leaders, earn their badges, and overcome the Elite Four and Champion.
Players explore towns, routes, caves, and other areas, catch wild Pokémon, assemble a party of up to six, and use items and techniques to progress. Pokémon gain experience and may evolve, while new areas and story events open as the player advances. Optional activities include completing the Pokédex and battling or trading through the Game Boy Link Cable.
Plan your run
Build a balanced party with different types rather than relying on one strong Pokémon. Keep reliable answers to common weaknesses such as Water, Electric, Ground, and Psychic.
Explore thoroughly, save before important battles, and carry healing items. Teach valuable techniques carefully because many useful moves are limited, and use the Pokédex and battle experience to identify effective matchups.

Pokémon Red Version is a single-player role-playing and adventure game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy. The player travels across the Kanto region, catches and trains Pokémon, challenges Gym Leaders, and works toward becoming the Pokémon Champion. Battles are turn-based, with type advantages, status effects, and experience-based growth forming the core systems. Red is paired with Pokémon Blue and is designed to encourage trading between versions. Its compact world, collection mechanics, and link-cable multiplayer made it a major commercial and cultural success, while its accessible structure helped establish Pokémon as one of Nintendo’s most enduring game series.
