How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling perspective, with occasional fixed-screen stages. The objective is to reach the end of each area, defeat defenses and bosses, and destroy the final enemy threat. Players can move, jump, crouch, fire in eight directions, and use weapon capsules to improve their firepower.
A full run is divided into several stages with distinct terrain, hazards, enemy formations, and boss encounters. The default weapon can be upgraded to spread shots, rapid fire, missiles, or other power-ups. A hit normally costs a life, so progress depends on learning enemy patterns and preserving limited continues.
Plan your run
Stay mobile and avoid standing directly below or beside enemies. Learn the timing of enemy waves instead of rushing blindly, and prioritize weapon capsules when they can be collected safely.
The spread weapon is especially useful for covering multiple lanes, while rapid fire helps maintain damage against bosses. In two-player mode, coordinate movement so one player does not screen-scroll the other into hazards.

Before you begin
Use short jumps and crouching to evade bullets rather than relying only on forward movement.
Keep a weapon power-up whenever possible; losing it makes later sections much harder.
In cooperative play, avoid separating too far because both players share the scrolling battlefield.
Probotector is a side-scrolling run-and-gun action game developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. It is the European version of Contra, with its human protagonists and enemies redesigned as robots. Players fight through a series of military and science-fiction battlefields while constantly moving, jumping, crouching, and firing in eight directions. The game supports solo play and cooperative two-player action. Its demanding stages, fast enemy fire, memorable weapon power-ups, and limited continues made it a notable NES challenge. Probotector was well received for translating arcade-style action to home hardware, although its difficulty and limited margin for error remain central parts of its identity.
