How it plays

How does Puyo Puyo Sun play?

The playfield is viewed from the side, with each player controlling a vertical well. Falling pairs of Puyos can be moved horizontally, rotated, and dropped; matching groups vanish and make remaining pieces fall.

Players build chains rather than clearing isolated groups whenever possible. Each chain sends nuisance Puyos to the opponent, while Sun Puyos can trigger additional clearing effects. Solo play includes character scenarios and challenge-oriented modes, while versus play focuses on defeating an opponent before the player's own well fills.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Puyo Puyo Sun?

Build chains by leaving controlled gaps and allowing pieces to fall into place rather than clearing every pair immediately.

  • Watch the opponent's nuisance-Puyo queue before committing to a long setup.
  • Use Sun Puyos to extend or convert a chain when their clearing radius can remove nearby pieces.
  • Keep the lower part of the well orderly; an uneven stack can make the next pair impossible to place safely.
