Rastan
A barbarian warrior and the player character, armed with a sword and other weapons.
How it plays
Rastan Saga uses a side-view perspective. The player advances through linear stages filled with platforms, hazards, enemies, ladders, items, and boss encounters. The main objective is to survive each area and defeat its final guardian.
Rastan attacks with his equipped weapon, jumps across gaps, climbs where the stage allows it, and collects temporary equipment or abilities. Progression is based on clearing stages rather than building a persistent character, so careful positioning, enemy timing, and preservation of lives are central to success.
Plan your run
Learn enemy attack patterns before advancing, especially near ledges and narrow platforms. Keep moving, but avoid jumping blindly into areas where enemies can attack from above or below.
Collect useful weapons and armor when it is safe to do so, and save lives by treating boss encounters as pattern-learning exercises rather than rushing into close combat.

Rastan Saga is a side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Taito. The game follows Rastan, a barbarian warrior who battles through dangerous fantasy regions to reach the end of each stage and confront powerful guardians. Its design combines arcade combat, jumping challenges, weapon pickups, and limited-resource survival. The DOS version adapts Taito’s 1987 arcade game for home computers, retaining its direct combat focus and stage-based structure. Rastan can use swords and other weapons while collecting armor and temporary power-ups. Reception has generally recognized the original arcade version for its energetic action and atmosphere, while home conversions have been judged more unevenly because of technical differences.
