How it plays

How does Renegade play?

Renegade presents three side-view stages, each divided into combat areas populated by groups of enemies. The objective is to defeat the attackers and advance through the location before confronting the stage's final threat.

The player moves, turns, punches, kicks, jumps, and throws opponents. Enemies can approach from either side, so facing direction and spacing are important. The NES version is a single-player game with limited continues and no character progression system beyond learning enemy patterns and completing successive stages.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Renegade?

Stay near the center of the screen so enemies are less likely to surround you from an unexpected angle. Turn toward incoming attackers before striking, and use kicks or throws when several enemies are pressing close.

Advance cautiously through each area. Repeating a safe attack pattern is useful, but avoid attacking blindly because enemies can interrupt slow moves. Save continues for the later stages, where enemy groups and bosses leave less room for recovery.
