How it plays
The game uses a first-person perspective. Players explore multi-level episodes, find keys and switches, defeat Triad soldiers and monsters, collect weapons and ammunition, and reach the exit. Levels include lifts, traps, destructible scenery, secret areas, and hazards that can punish careless movement.
The arsenal ranges from pistols and machine guns to explosive and exotic weapons. Power-ups can grant temporary abilities such as invulnerability, flight, or increased firepower. Single-player episodes provide the main progression, while multiplayer modes support competitive matches on suitable maps.
Plan your run
Search rooms and walls carefully for secret areas; they often contain ammunition, health, or powerful weapons.
Conserve explosive ammunition for groups and dangerous targets, and keep moving when facing hitscan enemies. Learn the locations of keycards, lifts, and traps before attempting speedier runs.

Keep a conventional weapon available when explosive ammunition is scarce.
The game’s fast movement and hazards reward constant awareness more than stationary shooting.
Rise of the Triad: Dark War is a first-person shooter developed and published by Apogee Software for DOS. It follows the H.U.N.T. team as its agents assault a fortified island controlled by the fanatical Triad organization and its leader, El Oscuro. The game combines conventional firearms with explosive weapons, power-ups, exaggerated movement, and deliberately theatrical violence. Its campaign is divided into episodes and supports both single-player missions and multiplayer deathmatch modes. Released in 1994, it was recognized for its fast action, large and often secret-filled levels, gibs, environmental hazards, and unusual power-ups. Its Build-engine presentation and irreverent tone made it a distinctive alternative to more restrained military shooters of the period.
