How it plays

How does Shadow of the Ninja play?

The game uses a side-view perspective across six stages divided into multiple sections. Each stage ends with a boss, and hazards include pits, moving platforms, projectiles, and enemies placed at close range.

Players move, jump, attack, collect temporary weapons, and climb certain surfaces or hanging chains. Hayate and Kaede share the same basic abilities, while weapon management and positioning are central to survival. The campaign supports one or two players, with progress advancing linearly from one stage to the next.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Shadow of the Ninja?

Stay near the center of the screen when possible so incoming enemies can be seen before they reach you. Use the chain and wall-climbing sections deliberately rather than rushing into the next group of opponents.

Save powerful weapons for bosses and crowded areas. In two-player mode, avoid standing on the same side of an enemy so one hit does not disrupt both characters.

Before you begin

What should you know before playing?

  1. 1

Learn the range and timing of the basic sword attack before relying on limited weapons.

  2. 2

Attack enemies from a safe height when platforms allow it.

  3. 3

The two-player mode is helpful, but careless movement can make narrow sections more difficult.
