How it plays
The game uses a side-view perspective. Bart explores sections of Springfield and completes a different objective in each of five stages, such as removing purple objects, changing residents' clothing, or collecting items needed to disrupt the alien plan.
Bart can walk, jump, interact with objects, and use stage-specific tools. Progress depends on searching each area carefully, managing limited ammunition or spray, and learning enemy and hazard patterns. Some stages include a short bonus or challenge sequence after the main objective.
Plan your run
Search each screen before moving on, because useful objects and required targets are often placed above, below, or behind hazards. Conserve spray and other limited tools instead of using them on harmless scenery.
Learn the position of enemies and hazards through short attempts. In later stages, prioritize the required objective over exploration, then return for remaining items only when the route is safe.

Before you begin
Inspect unusual scenery; many stage objectives involve changing or removing specific objects.
Avoid wasting limited spray or ammunition on targets that are not required.
Use safe platforms to study enemy movement before attempting a jump.
The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants is a side-scrolling action-platform game developed by Imagineering and published by Acclaim Entertainment for the NES in 1991. Bart must stop aliens who are preparing a weapon in Springfield, with each stage focused on removing or collecting a particular type of object. The game mixes platforming, exploration, item use, and small environmental puzzles rather than relying only on combat. Its five-stage structure uses familiar Simpsons locations and characters, but the demanding controls and limited resources make it notably difficult. Reception was mixed: the licensed presentation and varied objectives were appreciated, while uneven collision detection and frustrating progression drew criticism.
