How it plays

How does Sonic CD play?

The game uses a side-view perspective across seven zones, each divided into three acts, plus special stages and a final confrontation. Sonic runs, jumps, rolls, collects Rings, defeats enemies, and searches for routes through obstacles and loops.

Time-travel signs allow Sonic to move between eras after building enough speed. Destroying the robot generator in an act creates a good future for that act. Collecting all seven Time Stones through the special stages also enables the best ending. A save system records progress between sessions.

Plan your run

What is the best way to play Sonic CD?

Learn the layout of each act before prioritizing speed. Explore alternate paths in the past, where robot generators and useful routes may be easier to reach.

  • Carry Rings into dangerous sections and use checkpoints before attempting difficult jumps.
  • To create a good future, destroy the generator in every act or collect all seven Time Stones.
  • In special stages, focus on maintaining speed while methodically destroying the required UFOs.

What should you know before playing?

  3. 3

Amy’s presence can make some hazards more dangerous, so keep moving when she follows Sonic.
