How it plays
The game uses a side-scrolling platform perspective. The objective is to traverse each zone, survive hazards, defeat or avoid enemies, collect Rings, and finish the stage before losing all protection and lives.
Stages are built around running, jumping, slopes, springs, loops, platforms, and alternate routes. Progression follows a sequence of zones and acts, with boss or end-of-zone encounters where implemented. Character abilities and level behavior can vary depending on the selected playable character.
Plan your run
Preserve momentum, but slow down before blind drops and unfamiliar hazards. Rings provide protection from most single hits, so collect them whenever doing so does not create unnecessary risk.
Explore branching paths for safer routes and useful power-ups. Learn the position of springs, monitors, and traps before attempting speed-focused runs.

Sonic Megamix 5.0 is an unofficial 2D platform game created by Team Megamix for the Sega CD version of the project. It reworks the classic Sonic formula with redesigned stages, altered environments, expanded character options, and mechanics drawn from several 16-bit Sonic games. The player races through side-scrolling zones, collecting Rings, defeating enemies, and reaching the goal while maintaining momentum. Its development history and fan-made status make release details less standardized than those of an officially published game. Among retro-game enthusiasts, Megamix is noted for its ambitious scope, custom level design, and effort to build a substantial Sonic experience around modified classic-game technology.
