How it plays
How does Space Invaders play?
The game uses a single-screen perspective. Alien formations move side to side, descend when they reach an edge, and gradually become more dangerous as their numbers decrease. The player moves the cannon along the bottom and fires at individual invaders while using defensive barriers for limited protection.
The objective is to destroy every alien in a formation without losing all available lives. UFO targets may cross the top of the screen and can provide bonus points. Stages repeat the basic formation-clearing structure, with difficulty increasing through faster movement and more immediate pressure.
Plan your run
What is the best way to play Space Invaders?
Stay near the center at the beginning of a wave so that movement in either direction remains available. Fire in controlled shots rather than holding a fixed position, and remove lower aliens quickly because their approach determines how much time remains.
Use the barriers as temporary cover, not permanent protection. Clear one side of the formation methodically, watch for enemy shots, and move immediately after firing when an alien reaches the lower rows.
Before you begin
What should you know before playing?
- 1
Prioritize aliens in the lowest remaining row.
- 2
Use lateral movement to dodge instead of relying only on barriers.
- 3
Shoot bonus UFOs when doing so does not expose the cannon.
