How it plays
Spyro explores hub worlds and portals to recover dragon eggs, gems, and other collectibles. His main actions are running, jumping, gliding, charging, breathing fire, and swimming after the relevant abilities are available. Enemies and environmental obstacles are combined with platforming routes and hidden rooms.
Several stages include tasks played as Sheila the kangaroo, Sgt. James Byrd, Bentley the yeti, or Agent 9. Completing levels, egg challenges, speedways, and minigames opens more of the adventure. Progress is tracked through rescued eggs, collected gems, and completed objectives, with additional content becoming available late in the game.
Plan your run
Explore each hub carefully before leaving. Gems can be hidden behind scenery, on high ledges, or along alternate routes, while eggs are often awarded for completing specific tasks rather than simply reaching the end.
Use the companion characters whenever a level permits them, since their abilities open routes Spyro cannot reach. Return to earlier areas after gaining new movement abilities, and use Sparx's color to judge Spyro's health before difficult challenges.
For completion-focused play, finish speedways and minigames as well as ordinary stages. Check the Atlas frequently to identify missing eggs, gems, and percentage goals.

Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon is a 3D platformer developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the original PlayStation. The story begins when a mysterious sorceress steals newly hatched dragon eggs from the Dragon Worlds, sending Spyro and Sparx on a journey through several themed realms. Exploration, jumping, gliding, charging, flame attacks, collectibles, and minigames form the core of play. The adventure is structured around hub worlds and portals leading to main stages, bonus areas, and character-specific challenges. It was widely praised for its colorful presentation, responsive controls, variety, humor, and generous amount of content, and is commonly regarded as one of the strongest platformers in the original Spyro trilogy.
