How it plays
Strider 2 is viewed from the side. The objective is to guide Hiryu through a sequence of futuristic stages, defeat enemies and bosses, and stop Grandmaster Meio. Stages include platforming routes, hazards, moving surfaces, and enclosed combat areas.
Hiryu uses his Cypher sword, jumps, climbs or moves along walls, and performs evasive maneuvers. Defeated enemies and bosses allow progression to the next area; the game focuses on learning attack patterns and maintaining momentum rather than collecting equipment or building a large inventory.
The PlayStation release is primarily a single-player campaign. Completing the main game can unlock additional playable content, including the original Strider, depending on the version and save conditions.
Plan your run
Keep moving instead of trading hits with enemies. Hiryu's speed and wall movement make it safer to attack from a new angle than to remain in one position.
Learn boss patterns before committing to long attacks. Strike during recovery windows, use jumps or wall movement to avoid projectiles, and preserve your health for the final sections of each stage.
Meet the cast
A cyber-ninja and elite agent who uses the Cypher sword and acrobatic movement to fight Meio's forces.
The series' principal antagonist, whose return drives Hiryu's mission in Strider 2.
Before you begin
Use wall movement to bypass dangerous ground enemies and reposition quickly.
Boss attacks are usually easier to avoid when Hiryu stays mobile and attacks only after a pattern ends.
The campaign is short, so replaying stages is useful for learning routes and improving execution.
Editorial context
A stylish and energetic continuation of Capcom's cyber-ninja series, praised for speed and responsive combat.
Its concise campaign and demanding sections may feel less substantial than longer action games.
Strider 2 is a fast-paced 2D action-platform game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation. It stars Strider Hiryu, a highly mobile cyber-ninja sent across a futuristic world to confront the returning Grandmaster Meio and his forces. The game combines side-scrolling exploration with sword combat, wall movement, acrobatics, and short, demanding stages. Compared with the 1989 arcade original, Strider 2 emphasizes speed, rapid attacks, and more direct stage progression. Hiryu can move through environments with considerable freedom while fighting soldiers, machines, and large bosses. The game was generally well received for its responsive controls, stylish presentation, and faithful continuation of the series, although some reviews noted its brief length and occasional difficulty.
