How it plays
Players guide Strider Hiryu through large side-scrolling areas from a two-dimensional perspective. The main objectives are to explore each region, defeat enemies and bosses, find route openings, and reach the final confrontation with Grandmaster Meio.
Strider attacks with his sword, jumps over hazards, climbs or clings to surfaces, and uses acrobatic movement to reach elevated paths. Progression comes from learning the layout, surviving environmental traps, and defeating bosses rather than from a conventional experience-level system. The game is primarily a single-player campaign with interconnected stages and hidden passages.
Plan your run
Use Hiryu’s speed and jumping ability instead of trading blows with every enemy. Strike while moving, then retreat before larger foes can counterattack.

Strider is a side-scrolling science-fiction action game developed and published by Capcom for PlayStation. It follows Strider Hiryu, an elite cybernetic ninja sent to confront the dictator Grandmaster Meio and the forces controlling Earth. The game combines fast sword combat, acrobatic movement, wall climbing, and exploration across interconnected stages. Rather than simply moving from left to right, players search large areas for routes, power-ups, and bosses while using Strider’s mobility to overcome hazards. This PlayStation entry expands on the arcade original with a darker presentation and more exploration-focused structure. Reception generally praised its responsive movement, stylish art direction, and combat, although some players found the level design and pacing less consistent than the classic arcade game.
