How it plays
Matches take place in enclosed 3D arenas, with two fighters trying to deplete the opponent's life bar before time expires. Players can walk, sidestep, block, jump, crouch, attack, counter, and use throws or character-specific command moves.
Arcade mode leads through a series of one-on-one fights and ends with a character-specific conclusion. Versus mode supports local two-player battles, while Team Battle and Time Attack provide additional challenges. Winning fights and completing modes unlocks extra characters and other content in the PlayStation release.
Plan your run
Learn one reliable launcher, one safe poke, and one punish for each character. Practice blocking the opponent's common strings and responding with the fastest attack available.
Use sidesteps to evade linear attacks, but do not sidestep every situation. Throws and low attacks are useful against defensive players, while repeated unsafe specials should be used sparingly because they can be heavily punished.

Editorial context
A landmark PlayStation fighter with a large roster, responsive controls, and much more content than the original.
Its age shows in the polygonal visuals, but the fundamentals and character variety remain appealing.
Tekken 2 is a 3D arcade fighting game developed and published by Namco for PlayStation. Set two years after the first tournament, it follows the return of Kazuya Mishima and the challenge posed by his father, Heihachi. The game combines an eight-way movement system with punches, kicks, throws, sidesteps, and character-specific special techniques. Its main appeal is a large roster of distinctive fighters, each with an individual ending and move set. The PlayStation version became one of the system's best-known fighting games and was widely praised for its smooth animation, responsive controls, and substantial home-console content. It remains an important early example of a fighting game successfully translating arcade-style 3D combat to home hardware.
