How it plays
Tetrominoes descend into a rectangular well viewed from the side. The player moves each piece horizontally, rotates it, and drops it into position before the stack reaches the top.
Completed horizontal lines disappear, increasing the score and creating room for further pieces. Play continues through rising speed or selectable difficulty, depending on the chosen mode; the central objective is to survive and build a high score.
Plan your run
Keep the stack low and as flat as possible, while preserving a vertical opening for the long I tetromino. Avoid creating isolated holes beneath the surface, because they are difficult to fill.
At higher speeds, favor safe placements over elaborate setups. Rotate pieces early, watch the next piece if the interface provides that information, and clear lines regularly rather than allowing an unstable tower to grow.
Before you begin
Build from the bottom upward and avoid covered gaps.
Use the I tetromino for a four-line clear only when the well is otherwise stable.
Tetris Classic is a DOS falling-block puzzle game developed and published by Spectrum Holobyte in 1992. It presents the established Tetris premise: arrange descending tetrominoes to complete horizontal lines and prevent the playfield from filling. The game is primarily a single-player score-and-survival experience, with keyboard controls and a range of falling speeds that demand increasingly quick decisions. Its presentation reflects Spectrum Holobyte’s effort to give the internationally famous puzzle a polished home-computer version. Reception was generally favorable among DOS players, particularly for its accessible rules and faithful core play, although the underlying design remained the main attraction rather than a large adventure or story campaign.
