Jerry
The playable mouse who navigates the stages and tries to avoid or outwit Tom.
How it plays
The game uses a side-view platforming perspective. Jerry travels through rooms and other cartoon-styled areas, jumping across platforms, avoiding hazards, collecting useful items, and dealing with enemies.
Stages are arranged as a linear progression, with each level requiring the player to reach its endpoint while managing limited space and enemy timing. Progress depends mainly on learning routes, choosing safe jumps, and preserving opportunities to recover from mistakes.
Plan your run
Study enemy movement before crossing narrow platforms, and avoid rushing into areas where a jump cannot be corrected. Use the full width of each platform and keep a safe position near the center when possible.
Treat collected items and attack opportunities as resources rather than distractions. When a section seems difficult, repeat it to learn the timing instead of relying on fast reactions alone.
Meet the cast
The playable mouse who navigates the stages and tries to avoid or outwit Tom.
Jerry’s cat rival and the central antagonist of the game.
Before you begin
Watch enemy patterns before committing to a jump.
Explore carefully, but do not sacrifice a safe route for a risky item.
Use repeated attempts to learn the timing of hazards and platforms.
Tom & Jerry is a side-scrolling action platformer released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1991. Developed and published by Hi Tech Expressions, it places the player in control of Jerry as he moves through familiar household environments while avoiding Tom and other hazards. The game combines straightforward platforming with enemy encounters, item collection, and short obstacle-focused stages. Its design follows the compact structure common to licensed NES games of the period: players clear a sequence of levels, learn enemy patterns, and rely on careful movement rather than elaborate systems. Contemporary and later opinions have generally been mixed, with the recognizable license providing appeal but the simple presentation and uneven challenge limiting its reputation.
